Marcia Patterson British
ARTIST STATEMENT
Negative life events presents us all with a plethora of emotional responses. I explore feelings of loss, and fear and frustration and confusion and anxiety. The question is how to manage these responses in a way that doesn’t damage, but that strengthens resolve. For me, the first thing to do is to give these emotions a tangible manifestation that acknowledges their existence.
Marcia’s interest in art, which developed in her years at school, peaked when she achieved formal qualifications: an O-level and A-level in art, and a Foundation course in Art and Design, and a BA Hons in 3D Design at Newham Community College and Middlesex Polytechnic. After graduating, her circumstances prevented her from carrying her art over into a career. Marcia pursued certain part-time and short courses with Adult Education, which were City and Guilds in Ceramics and life drawing. She also successfully joined a figurative oil painting course at Central St Martins.
